Hello Friends,
It's about to get nerdy up in here, you've been warned! Designing a game is never a straight A-B line, everyone works a little bit differently. We could go on about designing games, but there's already a ton of really good information out there. If you're interested in learning more, I highly recommend the books of Geoffrey Engelstein, the blogs of Ignacy Trzewiczek or Jamey Stegmaier, and the website Boardgamedesignlab.com.
One staple of any design process is the White Box Test. This is the first time we get to see our game start to come together. The manufacturer will send us a completely blank version of the game, the box, or both so we can make sure the game is as we envisioned. This week we got to see the White Box of the Big Boi Box. We've not made a hinged box before so this was an important test to ensure the box looks good and does what we want it to do. I'm happy to say it does both. And it's rugged. But don't take my word for it:
This does not include the latch that we designed before the Kickstarter started to make sure that there was a way to keep the box closed. Don't worry, it will all be combined when they give us a prototype of the game. We're one step closer to this little beauty being a reality:

Speaking of the Big Boi Box. Our current plan is to sleeve the box and add the game logo, pictures, description, and all the legal mumbo jumbo to the sleeve. That way your box remains an epic treasure chest. This sleeve will also be translated so those of you who bought the game in different languages will know exactly which game is which.
BACKERKIT LOCKS 9/30
Just a reminder to everyone that Backerkit locks on 30 September and cards will be charged the 48 hours following that. We realize that between now and delivery of the game that addresses will change, we will send out an email on how to change addresses if needed closer to the delivery date, so don’t worry. If you would like to purchase more items after Backerkit locks, it’s as simple as reaching out to the Backerkit team (https://boirequiem.backerkit.com/faq#contact-us) and requesting they unlock your pledge. This is especially relevant for the folks that want to spread the charges out over several billing statements so we wanted to make it as simple as possible.
If you’d like to make any last minute changes to your Backerkit order, you can either use the email link provided earlier, or head here https://boirequiem.backerkit.com to find your survey again.
Requiem
The game will be finished in October and will be ready to send to the manufacturer. The artwork and wording on all of the cards are going through final tweaking and there will be a few weeks of playtesting and card clarity.
This also means that we will not have examples of the translated cards before Backerkit locks on September 30th. We're aware there are people waiting to make a decision about the language preference based on these examples. We've worked with Backerkit to create an easy fix. In a few months when we show you the translated cards you can head over to https://boirequiem.backerkit.com/faq#contact-us and ask them to update the language if you decide it needs changed. Don't worry, you don't need to remember this link, when we show you the cards we'll include it.
We'll be back with more soon,
~The Maestro Team
